At TGS Harmony Day is one of our annual events that celebrates our inclusive, diverse community.
Harmony Day, which began in 1999, occurs on 21 March each year and celebrates Australia’s success as a diverse society united by a common set of values. Since 1945 more than six million people have settled in Australia and in 60 years of post-war migration Australia’s population has jumped from 6 million to approximately 20 million.
Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
The colour orange represents Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
When we celebrate Harmony Day at Trinity Gardens School, students can choose to wear something orange or their cultural dress to show support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia. We have a Harmony Day picnic with buddy classes on our Devitt Oval.
